WARNING: Contains spoilers.

So, I saw it.

I had been very cautious about letting myself feel any genuine excitement about a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie since the minute word of a reboot was unceremoniously breathed upon the world. After all, everyone knows how to the world feels about Hollywood rebooting classic films simply because they have no better, original ideas. But then it got worse. Continue reading

The One That (Re)Started It All

One day, a few years ago, my future roommate and cohort Jack randomly surprised me with the toy pictured above, a set of Ghostbusters Minimates, by the company Diamond Select Toys. The two-pack features Courtroom Pete Venkman and the Washington Square Ghost, as seen in the movie Ghostbusters II. When I was a kid, I had tons of toys…everything from Ghostbusters, to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to Batman, to Transformers. Unfortunately, the vast majority of my collection was broken, lost, or thrown away by my parental units as I lost interest in it for the middle part of my life. Continue reading

The Nerf Bow and Arrow: An Evolution

I’ve been a fan of Nerf ever since I was a wee lad, and I’m still quite a wee lad at heart. One of my favorite weapons from their foam projectile arsenal has always been their bow and arrow. The first incarnation of this was released when I was a kid, and proved to be worth years of fun. Continue reading

The End of an Era

This past week, it was brought to my attention that the Travel Channel’s Toy Hunter will not be renewed for a fourth season. Rumor had it that the show was cancelled by the network, but with a bit of digging, I found that the show’s star, Jordan Hembrough, decided to move on to other opportunities as his contract had ended. Death and Taxes: Part II

Change is an unstoppable force that shifts our thoughts, actions, priorities, and traditions. Sometimes it energizes us, while other times, it inhibits us. Sometimes we can prepare for it, yet other times we cannot. One things we can always do is question it. People will always be curious as to why things evolve the way they do, on every level, from individual to mankind at large. Continue reading

The Great Debate

Rainbow_flag_breeze

With last week’s decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states, the nation was torn between celebration and revulsion, each to varying degrees. For something that much of the country believes should be a given, and has been a long time coming, there are many more who feel that this decree by the highest of courts in our land is an affront to the Constitution, to morality, to state’s rights, and to deep-seated religious convictions. The decision has even been met with brazen rebellion by the governors of certain states, who have ordered municipal clerks not to obey the ruling by the Supreme Court, as it is said to encroach upon the religious freedom of the faithful. One of those state leaders, Greg Abbott of Texas said, Continue reading

Death and Taxes: Part IV

Originally published on 10/4/11 at The Only Podcast That Matters (theonlypodcast.com)

Just when I thought I had run out of change, I dug into my pockets and found a lot more to put in your cup. This will be the fourth episode in this continuing series about the way things change in life, love, technology, music, and more. Technology is something that changes constantly, and changes us as well. It evolves the way we think, communicate, feel, and the things we are able to do. Language is something that is being broken down into more and more dialects, or just simply broken down due to these changes. Thanks to the massively popular social networking site Twitter, what we used to know as simply a “pound sign” has become a “hashtag”. The “red ring” used to be that mysterious tattle-tale that followed you around in the pools if you couldn’t hold your apple juice, but now it is known to be one of a video gamer’s worst nightmares. Any sort of typing that goes on anywhere on the Internet has begun to suffer at the hands of the youth. Continue reading

Death and Taxes: The Way the Game Changes

Everybody faces changes, or sometimes a lack thereof, in this life. We’re not happy when things change, and we’re often equally dismayed when they don’t. Changes vary in magnitude, and the time it takes for them to occur. For example, a seemingly insignificant, quick change lies in the way a pair of socks never feels the same the second time you put them on as they did upon first wear. Other circumstances evolve over the course of decades, and have much more impact on individuals and an economy at large. There was a time when a college degree gave you an advantage over the rest, but in the new millennium, it’s the equivalent of a high school diploma, Continue reading
