Finally, in a long succession of canned IPAs from Ocean, New Jersey’s craft powerhouse Kane Brewing Company, comes one of its kind that doesn’t taste like freshly-cracked black pepper to me. Something is very wrong with my taste buds, I’m told, but that’s for another time. Mosaic Punch, canned earlier this month by Kane, is a tasty little number brewed with peach, mango, lactose, and copious amounts of Mosaic, Galaxy and Citra hops. All the smells, all the flavors. The Beer List: Fruitlands by Modern Times Brewing
Imagine you’re a can of beer. Surviving a cross-country trip in a suitcase, which was undoubtedly thrashed about by uncaring baggage handlers at the airport, is no small feat. You made it, though, only to be immortalized in a tiny corner of the Internet because of the explosive deliciousness of your contents! You are Fruitlands, from San Diego’s Modern Times Brewing. You are legend. Continue reading
The Beer List: Yacht Juice by Icarus Brewing Company
Lakewood, New Jersey’s Icarus Brewing Company is barreling through its first year of operation, pumping out a larger variety of beers than many of its local counterparts. Icarus builds its foundation upon diversity and balance, and much of its success so far is a direct result of its ability to brew something for beer lovers of all palates. The current state of the craft beer world dictates that breweries get into the IPA game, and my former hometown’s Icarus Brewing has acquitted itself nicely to that end.

The Beer List: Orange Vanilla Bullsicle by Bolero Snort
It has been long insisted that honesty is the best policy, and if I am to share in that sentiment, at least for the moment, then I have something to confess: I had to look up exactly what “milk sugar” is before writing this review. Turns out it’s the non-scientific name for lactose. Now that we have that out of the way, there’s a little brewery located in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey called Bolero Snort, and said brewery uses the stuff in at least some of its beers. Keeps with the cow and bull theme that Bolero Snort employs as far as naming is concerned, and is even worth a knowing chuckle. Continue reading
The Beer List: Raging Bitch by Flying Dog
What’s in a name? Perhaps it’s an eye-catching title that makes that bottle of beer jump off the shelf at you, or maybe it’s something as which you refer to your ex. Yes, I said it, but you were already thinking it. In this case, however, we’re going to keep on the sudsy side and away from your broken relationship with this review of Raging Bitch by Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery. Raging Bitch is an outstanding beer, being a well-conceived marriage between two of the most popular styles of brewing – the Belgian ale and the India Pale Ale (IPA). Continue reading
The Beer List: DCBC 1 by Dark City Brewing Company
This week on “The Beer List,” I’ll be reporting on a local whopper of massive proportions – so strap in, pour yourself a cold one, and let me tell you a story about a beer that my senses will not soon forget. It all started at a local liquor store that has a fantastic selection of unique, and quite expensive craft beers… Continue reading
The Beer List: Sea Quench Ale by Dogfish Head
Delaware’s own Dogfish Head is a brewery that simply does not know how to fail. I’ve never experienced even vague disappointment with any of their brews, and yet another thoroughly enjoyable offering from these East Coast gods of brewing has been added to The Beer List here at The No Seatbelt Blog. Continue reading
Unbuckled Thoughts, Feb. 2017
Misheard lyrics have always created hilarity, and most, if not all of us have fallen victim at some point to our own misunderstanding of a song. My latest flub in this category is courtesy of Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” from her latest record 25, which was released in 2015. Since I first heard this catchy tune, I’ve always thought she said “we’ve gotta let go of all of our clothes, we both know we ain’t kids no more” in the song’s chorus. It wasn’t until about a month ago that I realized the lyric went “we’ve gotta let go of all of our GHOSTS…” I wasn’t understanding what forced nakedness had to do with coming to grips with getting older, but now I have my answer. Continue reading
