The Beer List: Scott and Drew’s Strange Brew

20161001_202508

This week on “The Beer List” here at The No Seatbelt Blog, a special beer is being featured, and it goes by several different names. Brewed by my friend and fellow loudmouth from The Only Podcast That Matters, Andrew, and by a beer-loving buddy of ours who goes by the name of Scott, this Belgian quadrupel took the title “Scott and Drew’s Strange Brew.” Concocted lovingly at The Brewer’s Apprentice in Freehold, New Jersey, where amateur brewers, guided by the professional sort can make their own beer and wine, this particular brew is truly the proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing. Brewery Special: Firestone Walker

20160831_190424

Welcome to the first ever Brewery Special at The No Seatbelt Blog! In lieu of simply reviewing one specially designated beer this week, I will present the details of my visit to Firestone Walker in Los Angeles. With my friends Chris and Jack, I went to the brewery, which also had a restaurant attached to it, for some pre-movie eats and brews. Continue reading

The Beer List: Schlafly Double Bean Blonde

20160806_120640

The interesting flavor combination offered by Schlafly’s Double Bean Blonde certainly lends some verity to the old saying that “blondes have more fun.” Normally, brewers that add the essences of coffee and chocolate to a beer do so with a porter or a stout, which are both dark, heavy, opaque styles. However, the St. Louis-based brewer Schlafly has pulled off something unique here with the double-bean attack of cocoa and everybody’s favorite morning pick-me-up in a blonde ale. Continue reading

The Beer List: Bluejacket Rheinhard De Vos Sour Brett Red

20160728_190723

“The Beer List” is back at The No Seatbelt Blog after taking a backseat for a week in the name of Ecto Cooler. This time, we’re getting sour again with a review on Bluejacket’s Rheinhard De Vos Sour Brett Red, which was graciously bestowed upon my wife Jenn and I as a wedding gift from my cousin Jen back in April. As you may know if you keep up with my weekly beer series, I’m a big fan of sour beers, and I’m very excited to share with you my thoughts on another brew that’s perfect for the summer season. The Beer List: Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA

20160702_193548

I’ve been waiting a long time to write about this one. For many beer connoisseurs, the 120 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head is the Holy Grail. Or perhaps, as the guys from Hot Tub Time Machine would call it, the “great white buffalo.” Kept “in the back” under lock and key by liquor stores, and furiously sought after by the truly dedicated, this Imperial India Pale Ale from Delaware’s brilliant Dogfish Head Brewery is not so much a beer as it is an experience. Continue reading

The Beer List: Game of Thrones Iron Throne

20160312_195958 (1)

This week’s edition of The Beer List marks the return of The No Seatbelt Blog to its regularly-scheduled programming after a week-long hiatus, as the hustle and bustle of work, school and wedding planning consumed my free time and sanity. However, I’m back in action with another beer review, and this time Ommegang’s Iron Throne from its popular Game of Thrones-themed series of limited-run brews.  Continue reading

The Beer List: Victory Winter Cheers

20151219_131424

For the second week in a row, a beer from Victory Brewing enjoys the spotlight here at The No Seatbelt Blog, for this special Christmas edition of The Beer List. Unfortunately, my first choice for this episode was White Christmas from Sam Adams, but I have been searching in vain to find it this year, and I ran out of time to write this review as scheduled. I wanted to find a Christmas or winter-themed beer, and those are obviously easy to come by during this time of year, and the good news is, I found just that in Victory’s Winter Cheers.  Continue reading

The Beer List: Victory Golden Monkey

20151211_201833

Happy Sunday from the land of hops and suds known as The Beer List here at The No Seatbelt Blog! Here we go…

All the way from the magical land of Pennsylvania comes a Belgian tripel ale that will knock your socks and your taste buds off, and it goes by the mighty name of Golden Monkey. Victory Brewing, located in Downingtown, has been pumping out this strong but delicious triple ale for nearly two decades, and it’s no wonder why it has such staying power. Continue reading
