Funko Friday: Glenn

“Hey you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Are you cozy in there?” said Glenn Rhee over a radio to a bewildered Rick Grimes in the very first episode of The Walking Dead. You see, Rick had just awoken from a coma in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, and Glenn made him feel welcome before they even met face-to-face.

So…is he or isn’t he? That’s the question that’s on the mind of every fan of The Walking Dead after it appeared that fan-favorite Glenn was about to get written…or eaten off the show, the discussion circuit has exploded with questions and theories. As the characters on the insanely successful zombie drama go, Glenn Rhee is one of the handful whose death will almost certainly bring many to abandon their viewership out of heartbreak and rage. One of the main characters since the very first episode, Glenn has grown from an awkward but endearing survivor to a certified badass, who up until this still unknown outcome has continued to cheat death.

Funko, which has created an extensive line of Pop! vinyl dolls in the likeness of the show’s character, immortalized Glenn, pictured above, as he appeared early on in the show. This particular type of collectible from the Washington-based toy company is well-known for often not featuring a mouth, as you can see with Glenn here. This figure is rounded out by his high-school getup, toting a shotgun that seems almost bigger than him.

The second version of the Glenn Pop! doll that sits in my collection is the Hot Topic-exclusive Riot Gear Glenn, depicting him as he appeared during the season in which the group made a former prison their stronghold. At this point in the show, Glenn had found himself a love in Maggie, had fostered a world of self-confidence, and sparked the internal fire with which to defend his new family.

Glenn is one of the most beloved characters on the show, and everyone is waiting in earnest to find out if he somehow survived the hopeless situation in which he found himself.  We’re all rooting for you, Glenn!
